INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS CONVERGE IN KUALA LUMPUR FOR FIRST ASIA PACIFIC CONFERENCE ON NGV

Petronas Offshore Oil & Gas Latest NewsKuala Lumpur, 11 July 2005: About 40 international experts on natural gas, natural gas for vehicles (NGV) and related businesses and technologies will converge in Kuala Lumpur from 26 to 28 July 2005 for the inaugural Asia Pacific Natural Gas Vehicles Association (ANGVA)’s Conference and Exhibition or ANGVA 2005.

The three-day Exhibition and Conference, to be held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, will be officiated by Malaysia’s Minister of Transport Dato’ Sri Chan Kong Choy. It is jointly organised by ANGVA, PETRONAS and the Malaysian Gas Association and carries the theme of “Natural Gas for Vehicles – The Fuel of Choice”.

Among the notable speakers who have confirmed their participation are International Gas Union’s President Mr. George Verberg, Philippine National Oil Company’s President/CEO Mr. Eduardo V. Manalac, Petroleum Authority of Thailand’s Senior Executive Vice-President (Gas Business Group) Dr. Chitrapongse Kwangsukstith, ANGVA’s Secretary-General Dr. Garth Harris and IANGV’s Technical Committee Chairman Dr. Alex Lawson.

Representatives from Malaysia include Datuk Abdul Rahim Hashim, who is President of ANGVA; Datuk Ir (Dr.) Mohd Annas Mohd Nor, Malaysia’s Energy Commission Chairman; Encik Mohd Ghazali Daud, CEO of PETRONAS NGV Sdn Bhd, and Dr. Hamzah Abdul Hamid, General Manager of Special Projects, PETRONAS.

Datuk Abdul Rahim, who is also PETRONAS’ Vice-President of Gas Business, will deliver on the first day of the Conference a keynote address entitled “Natural Gas for Vehicles – the Fuel of Choice for Asia Pacific: Status, Challenges and Way Forward”. IGU’s Mr. Verberg will have the honour of presenting another keynote address on “Progress and Future of CNG, LCNG, LNG, Biogas and Hydrogen as Clean Transportation Fuels” on the second day of the Conference.

ANGVA 2005 is expected to attract more than 400 delegates and 100 exhibitors from 25 natural gas producing and consuming countries around the globe, representatives of service providers and automotive companies as well as government officials and representatives. The exhibition will cover a space of 1,300 square metres and is managed by Malaysian Exhibition Services Sdn Bhd.
