PETRONAS SPONSORS CICM RESPONSIBLE CARE AWARDS 2005

PETRONAS is sponsoring the Responsible Care Awards 2005 organised by the Chemical Industries Council of Malaysia (CICM), reinforcing its commitment towards continuous improvement in all aspects of health, safety and environment protection.The Awards, initiated in 2002 under CICM’s Responsible Care Programme, is an annual recognition given to signatories of the Programme that have voluntarily pledged their commitment to manage their businesses according to the Programme’s 10 Guiding Principles and six Codes of Management Practices. Previously, DuPont, ExxonMobil and The Dow Chemical Company sponsored the Awards.

Originated in Canada in 1984, Responsible Care has since been voluntarily adopted by the chemical industry in 46 countries. In Malaysia, the Programme currently has 82 signatory companies, 10 of which are from the PETRONAS Group.

The Awards are divided into four categories: two Corporate Awards (Gold and Silver Awards) for each of the six Codes of Management Practices; one Corporate Award for the Best Overall Winner (a Platinum Award); one Individual Award for the Greatest Contribution in Advancing Responsible Care Beyond Own Organisation; and two Special Awards (Gold and Silver Awards) for the Small and Medium-Sized Industries (SMIs).

The Awards will be presented to the winners in March 2006.
